The official Unleashed 2009 Tour merchandise at the Fanfire Fleetwood Mac store is mildly creative, at best. The shirt selection mainly features snippets of popular song lyrics on the front and back without any picture graphics. The official tour t-shirt, as we expected, has that black and brown four faces graphic that's been advertising the tour since day one. It's a polished photo, but it has no "unleashed" symbolism whatsoever and is about as creative as wheat toast.
Now the Design by Humans Fleetwood Mac contest entry shirts are another story all together. Talk about blowing the doors off! These graphics are where imagination, admiration and mad skills collide. There are nearly 200 entries of extraordinary creativity. The winner has not yet been announced as of this writing and there is no indication on the site as to when the winning shirt will be revealed. Submissions were due 2/22/09 and the site community votes the winner up.
Being that tonight is Fleetwood Mac's premier show at Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena, it would have been excellent to have announced the winner by now and had the shirt printed for purchase on the DBH site.
But, like many "official" media outlets for this Tour, this fits right into Bizarro Unleashed. The Fleetwood Mac website has mere scraps of stagnant Tour information, although we're urged to 'check back for the latest tour info!'. Uh, no. Stevie Nicks' official site, The Nicks Fix, has one sentence exclaiming, "Fleetwood Mac Tour starts March 1st!", and one other entry about the tour on the news page along with posts from 2007 and 2008. Maybe there will at least be a review of the first show up tomorrow. Hello?
I've found Fleetwood Mac fan blogs to be the most comprehensive and timely sources of band news.
